Q: How Do I Balance Out My Physique?

Dear Tony,

I've done a lot of cycling, martial arts and skiing. Now, at age 35, I'd like to try the fitness contests. I'm pretty lean with good abdominal and leg development. But my arms and shoulders look like they were surgically attached to me from someone else's body. How do I balance out my physique?

Cindi T.

A: Dear Cindi:

You've come to the right place! I have many programs, even a CD-ROM showing you a good, balanced total body workout. Weight training is the best cross-training tool you can use to balance a physique. In your case, the hard work is done! You have your basic torso and leg strength and development, plus you know how to turn on the energy for workouts that mean something.

You should add Shoulder Presses, Side Raises, Bent-Over Shoulder Raises, Wide-Grip Bench Presses, Wide-Grip Chin-ups (on a Gravitron-type machine) or Wide-Grip Lat Pulldowns, Triceps Pressdowns and Biceps Curls to your routine. Be sure you balance this by performing Good Mornings or the Cobra Raise for your low back.
